A less expensive alternative to the similar size Mercedes, both extensively used as light pumpers for decades by the great majority of German volunteer fire companies, who number over 20,000! The standard specification called for a 800 LPM @10AT pump, a nine seat crew cab and - optionally - a 800 LPM PP. With a GVW under 7.5 tons, they could be driven by a person with only a private car license, but due to this weight limitation they had no water on board - so they needed to get set into a hydrant or open water immediately.
