Until the relatively recent and rather limited introduction into France of the Hytrans water relay system from the Netherlands, which includes 150mm LDH, 110mm was the largest diameter commonly used hose for relays. It is still widely used, for both water relays and for hydrant hookup to high volume hydrants, which have a 110mm “steamer” outlet. Quite often, it is carried on pumpers and flaked in lockers or on a roof “coffin”. In France, hydrants can be as much as 200 metres apart, and the 110mm hoses incur much lower friction losses than the standard 65mm which is carried on the hose carts on pumpers.
