XYP491N Dennis D series LondonThis is from a brochure - in my private collection.
"Introduced into London in the mid-1970s, this narrow wheel base pump was not a dual purpose fire engine. It could only carry an extension ladder and not the 50 foot wheeled escape. Only two were purchased and their evaluation did not lead to a wider introduction in the LFB"
VAN 489M and this one XYP 491N
They were intended for the outer London area.

They had either a Perkins six litre six, which would have been London’s choice, or the Jaguar 4.2 liter petrol engine. This was not very reliable, and I was told some of these engines were actually fairly soon replaced by the Perkins diesel or a RR B 60/61 - which was of course an expensive decision!
