The green paint was adopted after the decision in WWII to incorporate municipal fire brigades into the recently formed national police force. The green color - and incidentally the blue lights - were already standardized for German police vehicles by then. In fact, although German police forces were reorganized into state and local organizations after the war, most continued with green vehicles until the 2000s. The famous blue light continued in use among emergency vehicles in Germany - and was of course gradually adopted throughout Europe, and is now quite common in the Americas too.

This towing tender was a standard wartime civil defense unit, built on numerous different chassis. Some had open cabs, and all had open rear bodies, unlike the British ATV. The design provided for a total of eight seats, and a variety of trailer pumps were towed. Unlike some others, the German trailers usually accommodated a significant amount of delivery hoses alongside the pump.
