This innovation was around the same time that some US fire service introduced paramedic advanced life support ambulances, but - just as in many other countries - it took many years before providing this kind of emergency medical response became the norm.

In the meantime, many fire departments, as well as both public, volunteer and private ambulance services relied on " scoop and scoot", using fast car based ambulances with barely any medical equipment on board
