I wonder why it was painted two quite different shades of red? Another rather odd feature is the presence of so many hoses on a unit, which does not seem to have had any on board pump.

For the color must be a refurbishing issue! Basel former color was dark red as the chassis. Exactly, no pump on this rig.

Thanks. A pity the restorers did not match the original color. I quite liked the dark red; it reminds me of the older San Francisco FD livery, which always looked very smart - especially on those rigs which had gold coach lining too.
