Note the very neat collapsed roof access ladder, so crew members can easily access the "coffin" on the roof. Although used for a variety of items, this often contains 110 mm LHD for connection to high volume output hydrants. This example seems to have a step ladder up there too...

Good to see the hook ladder is still standard equipment on French pumpers - around two hundred years since it was invented by French firefighters! In some countries - including the UK and Germany - they seem to have lost popularity and are no longer seen on many fire appliances. They really are still used in earnest in France quite often, to solve the same access problem in two hundred year old structures with interior courtyards that first inspired their creation. They are also quite useful on pitched roofs of all kinds.
