These newest Berlin rescue pumpers have an upgraded CAFS capacity compared to previous versions. This can pump up to 800 LPM through the system, producing 1600 liters of wet foam for initial structural attack. An upgrade which reflects the fact that CAF is the go to solution for initial attack on all types of fires except for special cases. The pump can supply two conventional hand lines using 52mm hoses, or one ground monitor using a 70mm line, or the vehicle mounted monitor ( on those units which have them ). Hydrant supply is via the on board water tank so that pump and compressor pressures can be synchronized.
The foam capacity of these is unfortunately mis-stated. Each 400 LPM handline produces up to 1600 to 2000 LPM of finished foam, so the pumper’s total capacity is in fact around 3200 to 4000 LPM, with an expansion ratio of 4X to 5X. The foam tank is 120 litres, enough to feed the system at maximum output for around 35 to 50 minutes, depending on the consistency of the foam being delivered.
