Another version of the German KLF. Because there is no national DIN or Land standard for these, each fire service or volunteer fire company has tried to come up with a specification which best meets its local needs, for responding to minor general service incidents, AFAs and small out door nuisance fires. This 7.2 ton Iveco is one of the larger types, similar to earlier Mercedes Vario 8 ton trucks and vans, which are no longer built. A smaller recent KLF on a three ton Mercedes Sprinter was posted on this site recently, illustrating a much smaller, less expensive and more basic approach.
As in other countries, the idea is to have a less expensive and more basic unit to respond to minor alarms, to save wear and tear on fully fledged pumpers, and to have these staffed by a small crew of three or four, so as to avoid tying down unnecessary manpower - who might otherwise be needed at a serious incident.
