French fire services operate over 4,000 of these, in various capacities from 1,000 to 6,000 litres, with 3,000 and 4,000 litre off road tankers being the most common. The chassis are usually Renault, MAN or Mercedes, including lots of Unimogs. So German fire services have a lot of catching up to do! Other Northern European countries, which are also experiencing serious wildland fires because of climate change these days may also start moving to buy a lot more of these, as they are relatively uncommon in Scandinavia, Britain, Poland and the Netherlands.

In Greece, Portugal and Spain there are already quite large numbers, as brush and forest fires have been a problem for ages, although in some areas the numbers have proven inadequate for the kinds of conditions we have seen recently.
