If you want to carry 18,000 litres of water around, you do need a big rig! The steering rear axle does help with maneuverability a bit, but this is still a very long and unwieldy beast of a truck.

This fire service covers four communities with a total population of around seven thousand people - with 140 volunteers working out of four fire stations. In recent years they have attended between 50 and 80 incidents a year. Like most Swiss volunteer fire companies, they have a comprehensive fleet of modern appliances, including a TL and heavy rescue truck, in addition to conventional pumpers, water tenders and of course this huge mobile tanker.

This is featured in a YouTube video, along with other units from the same fire service. Among other things, it shows how it is deployed next to a stream to refill itself - suggesting rather strongly that it is operating in areas without hydrants, which explains its amazing capacity.
