The Mitsubishi Canter is being marketed in Europe by Mercedes as a successor to their discontinued Vario right ton chassis, which is still used widely by fire services all over the World in numerous roles as a light pump, small water tender, 18 meter TL, rescue tender and in other specialized versions. Some brigades have welcomed the Canter, but others have chosen to refurbish their old Varios instead, or else buy the similar size Iveco Daily.
