Very common type of light fire tender, widely used by small town and village volunteer fire companies all over the West German states. Based on a slightly modified standard three ton commercial panel van, with a 90 BHP engine, it carried an 800 LPM portable pump, hoses and a very limited inventory of equipment - but had seating for nine crew members. It was later replaced as a standard DIN specification by the TSF - W. This had a 1000 LPM PP and a 500 litre water tank, with a six seat cab, which was a much more useful configuration.

But, because these original TSF units usually saw very little actual use, the old specification vans were often in service for twenty or even thirty years before being replaced.

They were rarely in service with fire brigades in larger towns or cities, except in a few cases where a very small vehicle was required to access ancient streets or buildings.

Many of these rigs are still running very well until today, in hands of collectors!

They are indeed very popular with enthusiasts because they are small, inexpensive and comparatively quite cheap to maintain in good condition. I think the fact that you can get nine family members and/or friends into reasonably comfortable seats in a small and economical van may also be part of the attraction. There are a few specials too, which are a bit more exotic.
