This is a much larger unit than is typically used by a second alarm command team in many other countries, including the USA, France and Germany, where the standard is a pickup truck, SUV, van or light truck is used. These include a Chevrolet, Dodge Ram, Ford Explorer , GMC, VW Transporter, Vano, Sprinter or Citroen. Bigger ICUs are of course deployed for major incidents, but are in a much lower ratio to other operational units than London, which has one for every 21 front line pumpers.

This tiered approach to command units is perhaps best illustrated by larger German fire services like Berlin, which operates three distinct levels of command units, varying in size and equipment, as well as separate additional units for hazmat and special operations.

While this approach may work for other brigades Rob, the current 1 size command unit set up works perfectly well. LFB do in fact have a smaller command unit based on a Mercedes Vito based at the EOC in Merton.
