Older specification urban structure pumper with 1600 LPM pump and 1200 liter water tank. The blue stripe is unique to this city brigade. It is quite common practice in German towns and cities with full time fire brigades for appliances to serve first with the full time staff, then be assigned to volunteer fire companies - where they tend to be used much less intensively - and finally to become reserve units. Although twenty four years’ service seems quite lengthy, it is not altogether exceptional for a reserve unit in a German city fire brigade.

Augsburg has two full time stations, both of which also house a volunteer fire company, and eight additional separate volunteer fire stations, principally in suburban areas of the city. Together they protect a population of 325, 000.

This combination service is universal in Germany. No city relies exclusively on full time firefighters. Even Berlin has 34 full time stations and a total of over 50 volunteer stations, around half of which are combined its full time stations while the rest are volunteer only.
