Bumper mounted remote control monitors are very much the trend now, replacing the older idea of fitting them to the roof on brush and forest fire trucks. Although they do bring a higher risk of getting damaged, they are a better solution for a one person operation, so the driver can much more easily see actually where the water stream is going as he or she drives the rig. Body mounted monitors remain the norm for structural fire pumpers of course, because they are not expected to be operated except when the vehicle is stationary. Although rare in the UK and most European countries, they are actually quite common in Germany and Poland - as well as being universal in the US, Canada and much of South America.
