picture 44153 depicts one of the previous batch of Berlin rescue pumpers. The only difference on the new ones seems to be the addition of low windows in the crew cab rear doors, which is not a bad idea. Another safety measure which has recently appeared on both a lot of taxis and some fire trucks here in the US is a small panoramic mirror on the B pillar. This is of course only useful for forwards facing seated passengers, as rearward facing crew members can see oncoming traffic from behind their truck quite easily...
But when traffic ignores a fire truck which has just pulled up at an incident - which is unfortunately something which can happen - ANY extra safety measure can be helpful.
