The one labelled " Bahn" carries special tools and equipment which are used to carry out rescue, recovery and retrieval at tramcar accidents. These often require lifting tram cars to extricate pedestrian victims (sometimes with the aid of a fire service crane) or working to get cars back on the tracks after collisions.
"Rustmaterial-Wasser" is a container for equipment to deal with water rescue and flooding incidents. Berlin has a river (the Spree) and a very large lake (the Wansee) as well as other minor bodies of open water, so flood risks and water rescue situations are not all that rare.
Berlin operates a total of 27 WLF transporter chassis like these, each capable of carrying any one of 40 various specialized AB pods.
Despite this rather impressive capability, the service still maintains no less than 89 special purpose single and double axle trailers dispersed among the 84 full time and volunteer fire stations! Quite comprehensive for city with less than half the population of London or New York City.
