Belgian fire services used to operate equipment trucks with crew cabs, which were pre loaded with additional items for firefighting, rescues and special operations, christened “material tenders”. They looked exactly like pumpers but had no pump, water tank or ladders. As the variety of items needed has expanded over the years, especially with the more widespread incidences of hazmat alarms, they have shifted to the German concept of a logistics tender like this example.
No longer pre loaded, this accepts a wide variety of standard sized wheeled baskets, each loaded up with equipment for a different situation. Like a smaller scale version of the pod system, this means the tender can be quickly loaded up to serve any of a number of different supporting roles.
With a single truck you can have at a few minutes notice a BA tender, a foam tender, a dry powder or chemical fire tender, a hose wagon, a hazmat unit, a portable pump water relay setup, a lighting and/ or ventilation rig, and just about anything else you can think of! As in Germany, some of these have crew cabs - but are also often built on standard truck cab chassis like this example.
