Suarez was founded in 1907 and the current fire station was built on the site of its predecessor in 1971 with ten bays to accommodate fire trucks and ambulances for the full time fire service, then expanded to cater to a newly formed additional volunteer fire company. This was founded in 1975, and like many of the city’s volunteers, shares the same location as a full time unit.

The full timers have a rescue pump, this ladder, a command van, three ambulances and a paramedic response unit, along with a rescue pump used by the training division and a St John ambulance too.

The volunteers have an additional rescue pump, a second older pumper and a trailer which carries a portable pump.

Like the rest of the city, the appliances are all on MAN chassis and the ambulances are Mercedes Sprinters.

Each of the city’s 34 full time stations has one or two rescue pumpers, a TL and at least one ambulance. Four have a rescue squad, and two very large fire stations house an extensive fleet of tactical snd special purpose trucks, cranes, transporters, containers and trailers - the main one having no less than 54 units on site!

In addition, most of the 84 volunteer fire stations have a minimum of two pumpers, including at least one rescue pumper, and several have specials too.

Although many stand alone volunteer stations in outer areas have a defined first response area, Suarez do not. Their role is to supplement the full time watch if they are tied up for any prolonged period of time, and to respond citywide to reinforce other stations at multiple alarm incidents. Unlike many volunteer companies in Berlin, they do not have a specialized role, but operate exclusively as a regular firefighting and rescue company.

This TL has recently been replaced by a much newer reassigned unit on a Mercedes Atego chassis, and the second volunteer pumper is now an older Mercedes Ecoliner too.

Rob yes, probably, I found the model a bit outdated for Berlin! However I took this pictures last week 11.03.23

Possibly a reserve unit there when you visited? Berlin keeps a few older ladders on the reserve roster because all of the full time stations as well as a few volunteer companies have a front line unit.
