Bedford OY pump RMO273 UKAEA Harwell
This will be an ex military lorry I suspect. I do not know who put the body on it though it might have been Home Office stores, Swindon, given it was destined for a defence type agency at Harwell. Or a company called "Specialist Metals" according to one web post?

Was in the FSNMT collection at Weedon before it was sold off c2014. Anybody know if it is still around?

That square old Bedford OY looks very odd with the curved bodywork. Front wheels look too far inset also.

Saving a few pounds, it would seem, but this marriage of convenience most certainly did not produce a thing of beauty! Some conversions of old military Canadian Chevrolets and American Dodge "Beeps" and GMC 6X6s in France, Belgium and the Netherlands after WWII looked quite professional; fortunately many of all three types are very well illustrated on this site. Just as NFS Austin K2/3 chassis and ATVs, and Bedford, Ford and Dodge NFS appliances were used and/or repurposed by fire brigades in the UK, it made a load of sense to use these ex military vehicles - most of which were relatively new and low mileage.
In France, the GMC forest fire tanker conversions - which numbered in the hundreds - were still used extensively well into the 19770s!
