Albion Merryweather pump ARB165

was supplied new to the Staveley Coal & Iron Co, based near Chesterfield, in 2016 it was sold by a collector who has owned it for the previous 30 years.

Bought for its in-house fire service it was owned by the firm until 1971

Wonderful old Merryweather with its piston pump, easily identified by the giant vertical air chamber which was designed to equalize the pressure from the different pistons.

On pump escapes, a horizontal balancing chamber was installed instead, as the vertical version was too high to accommodate the escape ladder carriage.
