Tandem axle pumpers are quite common in many North American fire departments, where portions of their response areas are not well covered by fire hydrants. They fill the gap between standard two axle pumpers - which usually have a water tank between 500 and 1000 US gallons - and dedicated 6X4 tankers, which can carry up to 3500 gallons, but have very limited space for crew members, hoses, ladders or other equipment. Specifications vary based on local requirements, but a 1500 or 2000 GPM pump and a tank around 1500 to 2000 gallons is fairly typical. They have a crew cab and a full complement of hoses, ladders and other typical pumper gear.

BTW one US gallon = 3.64 liters.
