153TCV Austin Gypsy L4P Cornwall

New to Cornwall County Fire Brigade in August 1963 serving at Camborne A4. It carried fleet number 507. It was transferred to St. Dennis B15 in 1973, then to Mullion A13 by July 1974. Out of service by May 1981. 1985 photo when preserved.

This long wheelbase version of the Gypsy had a 500 gpm pump and a 70 gallon tank. It accommodated a crew of four.

Cornwall had quite a few Gypsy fire pumps, but they were rather rare among other public fire brigades, mainly because Land Rovers were already well established - and usually well liked - by the time the Gypsy was introduced. Several Gypsy utilities were issued to the AFS, and the pump was quite often bought by factory brigades. It seems these were mostly the short wheelbase version with a 40 gallon tank, and some omitted the rear seats to make space for extra hoses, etc.
