Rather odd blue beacon location on the Dodge.

Rob, as they say in these parts, 'Normal for Norfolk' and it was on the Dodge, Ford and Dennis pumps of the late 70s and 80s.
One at the front of the cab on the offside and one at the rear on the nearside with the idea to provide all round visibility from just the standard two lights.

Here in the US the idea of economizing on warning lights does not seem to have caught on. Every new unit which comes into service seems to have even more than the one before it!

With some having as many as twenty (no kidding!) different multicolored lights, they are getting to look like a mobile carnival display...

Check some of the Youtube videos of American fire trucks and you'll see what I mean. Police and EMS are also competing to see who can attach the most lights to their vehicles, including a recent fashion for adding blindingly bright blue lights too...

It seems red, orange, clear and in some places green too are just not enough!
