See picture 46325 for an illustration of the French one man hose carts in use.

picture 43625 on this site illustrates one example of how these typical French one man hose carts are deployed. With up to ten 20 metre lengths of 65mm hose each, as well as a double wye with two 15 metre 45mm (or 38mm) attack hoses, they are standard on all French urban pumpers, and have been in use - with various modifications - for well over a century. Similar carts are widely used in Germany, and occasionally in the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria. Rectangular versions which carry flaked hoses with either two or four wheels (and even include electric ride-on examples) are universal in Japan too.
