Unmistakable "Eckhauber" with the equally unmistakable koelner Dom in the background. For many decades Magirus Deutz was the only fire appliance manufacturer in Europe to manufacture complete vehicles with their own engine, chassis, cab, bodywork, pump (if fitted) and - in this case - turntable ladder. After the firm became a division of Iveco, engine and chassis manufacturing were discontinued and FIAT based trucks were used, but for many years Magirus has been building on a wide range of other makes too.

Not to be forgotten that one district in Cologne on the other side of the Rhine is called Deutz with once numerous Deutz factories

Yes Magirus merged with Deutz, which was a well established manufacturer of air cooled Diesel engines, as illustrated by the characteristic giant cooling fan which is so clearly visible on this TTL behind the front grille.
