Nine seat vans like this Mercedes are very popular with German volunteer fire companies. Because German law mandates an attendance of at least sixteen fully trained and qualified firefighters within ten to twenty minutes for any reported structure fire, many volunteers have a van to bring later arriving personnel to an incident once the first (and second or third) due units have left the fire station.
