The TLF 2000 illustrated here replaced the old TLF 1800 DIN specification a few years ago. The original concept was for a water tender under 7.5 ton GVW, which could be driven by any volunteer without needing a HGV licence. At the time, most volunteers also had an LF800 pumper, which were also under 7.5 tons, but had no water tank. So the combination offered two (or three) 800 LPM pumps, a 1800 liter water supply, and crew accommodations for a total of eleven. Essentially, a full size pump water tender split up between two 7.5 ton trucks, which were cheap, maneuverable and could be driven by anyone with a car driver's licence.

They were popular with small volunteer fire companies, but have been greatly outnumbered by 16 ton TLF 5000 and more recently 16/18 ton TLF 4000 units; these larger tankers proved much more useful in many situations, although they do need a HGV qualified driver...
