With 182,000 citizens the city has around 200 paid full time firefighters and EMS staff operating out of two fire stations, with 48 to 52 personnel on watch at any time, as well as some 750 unpaid volunteers responding out of a further 17 fire stations. In addition, the fire service is the leading civil defense agency for a surrounding area with another 150,000 inhabitants.
