VLHR is an off road light utility, which can be deployed for any purpose, depending on the crew’s specialization - if any - and whatever kit is loaded into the rear compartment. French fire services still operate loads of Land Rovers in this role, but as the line is now discontinued, Toyota HiAce pickup trucks and the like are gradually replacing them. In Germany many fire services are now using vans (including some 4X4s ) with miniature rolling mini pods to add extra flexibility and variability to first responding units.
Some of these also have variable seating so they can serve as a nine person crew carrier if needed. The typical mini pods including first response firefighting units, various specialized rescue units, a hazmat pod, medical intervention and support pods such as foam, hose, BA and Cobra Cold Cutters.
