i made a mistake in the description the it should have said string from the right!! as the duxford tender is on the right.

The Duxford appliance is on the extreme LEFT, and it's the only LHD Dennis Sabre in service in the UK. It has Carmicael "Scorpion" bodywork, and was originally going to do a far east demonstration tour, though it's not certain as to whether this actually took place.

To answer an earlier question, no the Dennis never made it abroad. it was actually a cancelled export order for Oman, mainly intended as a vehicle for refinery fires and the like hence - 4500L water, 580L foam, plus the
roof mounted monitor, and an uprated engine (Cummins 300) and weighs just shy of 17 tons, compare that to 1800L (and a Cummins 260 engine) weighing 13 tons
for a 'standard' Sabre (it also handles like a pig compared to a normal Sabre!)
to 1800L

Thanks for the extra info on the LHD Sabre Mark. I didn't know they'd ever got it sold, as the plan as reported to me was definitely that it do a far eastern tour. The question is of course, was this tour only the interntion after Oman had cancelled. Either way, Duxford ended up with an extremely unique piece of kit.

If you can call somewhere between £120, 000 to £140, 000 a bargain Buzz!
It is actually leased by the museum, unlike the other fire vehicles in the fleet which are actually owned by the airfield fire service

Wow - what a rip off! Dennis would have struggled like mad to get rid of it. I would have bought another scania. Just noticed this, why does the the appliance with the winch not have the sunvisor spotlights, but the scania without the winch does? I would have thought any extra light at the front would have came in handy when using the winch. Incompetent buyers down there in Duxford i think!

Buzz, the Dennis is the only Duxford appliance in the photo, the two Scanias
are Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, as for the front flood lights,
the one with them is the newer model - so they may have been added in response to feedback from crews (it makes a nice change for the folks on the sharp end to be listened to!) the other possibity is different coach builders (i.e. Angloco, Emergency One, etc)

They are factory fitted by scania and have always been available on the 4 series crewcab.
