Dennis fire engines never die, they just keep on going! bet the mercs don't last as long, the volvo's didn't!

Agreed! But surely the last of these were gone even from the LFB reserve fleet by the late 1990s?

Can anyone tell me whereabouts in Ruislip the workshops are and if there is any public highway which gives a view of whats there?

Pete, I think someone from the FBS bring this machine along, as you stated that they were long gone.
The workshop is located at Field End Road, but you can't have a view as the road gave only a view on the workshop itself and the vehicles are all parked in the rear.

Iain, if you go by Field End Road you can sometimes see some fire engines parked up along the fence . Right now went past a hour ago and so some Volvos parked up back to back. the yard is near the Eastcote pub.

Do the Mercedes Econic rufuse compactor is operated by LFB? Seem it was repaired at the Ruislip. Yep, agreed that Dennis never dies.

John, is your conclusion that it is a Dennis Eagle, by prior knowledge of what bin wagons haunt the streets of Ruislip, or are you going by the amber beacons which are let into the roof line of Eagles? On the above photograph the amber section looks too deep to be a beacon and could just as easy be a patch painted on the roller shutter door behind?

Isn't this a real 'Anorak' type of discussion!!! Who could imagine that 'grown ups' (I assume you are...I don't know if I am...) would discuss such trivia!

On the subject of the bin wagon I thinks its a dennis elite royal berkshire frs run a water carrier on onee of those chassis

The picture looks like it was taken from the upstairs office at Ruislip. Things have changed a lot since, more Mercs on the fleet, and the view at the back has changed. The brick built warehouses at the rear of the shot have all gone.
The reason why vehicles were seen at the front of the workshop is down to the fact that they ran out of space to store the Volvos that have come off the run, since the new MK 2 Ategos came on the LFB fleet.

Interesting that LFB subcontract their maintenance.

By contrast, German cites with full-time firefighters like Berlin have operational personnel doing maintenance wen they are not responding to incidents.

Each full-time station has a maintenance specialization, and it is a precondition of recruitment that every candidate must already have completed an apprenticeship or certification in a relevant branch

Rob, I can't remember now, but the LFB was a long time ago sold to Assetco and now owns by Babcock which maintained their fleet

Good chance that Dennis was a driver training pump awaiting disposal.

It would seem to me that if you are going to train drivers to drive emergency vehicles responding to emergencies it would be important for them to train on the actual vehicles they will be required to drive, rather than older specification units which are going out of service.
