Abertstadt is one of five full time fire and EMS stations in this city of 580,000 people.
In common with other large German cities, Dresden also has twenty one additional volunteer fire companies, mainly in several suburban communities, where hich were originally separate villages.
They are the first to respond to incidents in areas where they are likely to be able to reach a reported incident location before a full time station. Otherwise they respond along with full time crews, attend multiple alarms, provide specialized backup at hazmat and other unusual events and relocate to full time fire stations to provide cover as and when their personnel are tied up.
This MAN is typical of the city’s fleet of rescue pumpers, carrying a comprehensive compliment of firefighting and rescue equipment. A reported structure fire is initially attended by two such units, a TTL, a command van and an ambulance with eighteen riders.
