Heinis and other fire truck manufacturers adapt either new or even second hand 3.5 ton vans like this to the particular requirements of each SDIS, and the equipment carried can vary between fire stations, depending on the numbers and kinds of general service alarms they most frequently encounter.

Some carry firefighting equipment, others only hand extinguishers. Laddders are often included, but not always, and the variety of rescue equipment is also quite varied.

Some carry animal cages and even looped sticks to capture and relocate venomous snakes.
