Dennis F26 dual purpose West Ham FB VAN819in late 1960 a new order was placed by West Ham for a replacement pump escape for the last open topped appliance - this was not a diesel from Merryweathers, who did not tender, a Dennis and a petrol engine unit. This was VAN 819 a Dennis F26, a dual purpose appliance and fitted with radio from delivery.

This has a blue beacon. Although Darlington's Leyland Firemaster TTL had one of the first OEM blue beacon light installations when delivered in July 1960, this Dennis may not have been far behind. Like many pump appliances in the early days of blue beacons, this one came with a single beacon...I am not familiar with the F26. Was this the chassis with the Dodge petrol engine, the Rolls six cylinder or the straight eight?
