The roof hatch indicates that this 10 ton GVW 4X4 with a 125 BHP V6 diesel engine was built on a military specification off road chassis rather than the 4X4 variant of the civilian version. These were not built with crew cabs, which also explains why the rear crew compartment is not integrated into the front cab, as on regular Magirus fire appliances...
The rather odd livery was once fashionable with fire services in the Stare of Hesse, where Obertshausen is located, but the white cab roof and the diagonal paint stripe were probably not original. With around 22,000 inhabitants, the town has a volunteer brigade which dates back to 1876. It has over 100 active members, nowadays operating a total of 15 vehicles out of two fire stations.
These include five pumps, two aerials, a heavy rescue, a BA tender, a minor alarm van, a utility truck, two personnel carriers, a command van and a staff car.
