This was a standard German water tender. Available on either 2X4 or 4X4 15 or 16 ton chassis, it had a 2400 LPM pump, a 5000 litre tank, a standard two door cab, and featured a roof monitor. They were by no means confined to rural and small town fire stations but often part of the first due attendance at urban fire incidents, so as to ensure that “big water” could be flowing quickly even if hydrants were not instantly accessible.
The designation “GTLF” and the length of the tank on this particular example suggests it may have had a tank larger than 5000 litres, but the 15 ton GVW would limit it to no more than around 6000 unless it was running overweight.
