This Heinis VPI first response firefighting unit is built on a 6.5 ton Renault six seat crew cab chassis. It has a pump rated at 1500 LPM @ 15 AT, a 1000 litre tank and a single one man hose cart.

The firm also builds full size and compact water tenders on 10-15 ton chassis, as well as 3.5 ton VPI units with either a PTO driven pump rated at 750 LPM @ 10 AT or a similarly rated portable pump, plus a 400 litre water tank. These are available on Ford Transit or Land Rover chassis with crew cabs.

These are often used by fire services to respond first (or alone) to AFAs and outdoor nuisance fires, brush fires and vehicle fires. The BMMP in Marseille staff them with three man crews, and although they are not allowed to commence interior attack at structure fires unless accompanied by other units, they do independently deal with a lot of incidents. In many small towns with combined full time and volunteer staffing, there will be a three person on duty watch who will staff an ambulance most of the time, but who will also crew the VPI first, arriving at a fire or other incident a few minutes ahead of the volunteers with the FPT and other trucks. Again, the VPI crew by themselves can often deal with many incidents which may have not yet evolved beyond their means.
