Very well quipped WTE? Could have been an F105 or F106 diesel too, with the AEC AV 470 engine. Does it have a 400 IG tank with all that timber on the roof too? Perhaps just a tad overloaded?

Looks like a PP compartment as well - seems a bit of a rarity on an appliance with an escape? I always thought rear mounted pumps on rigs which carried escapes were not really a good idea, but this photo shows that some Scottish contortionist has figured out how to hook it up without slipping the escape! Now to actually get it operating...

Probably AHS 720B Dennis F36 WRTE, Chassis No:110F36B2, supplied 10/5/64, not being a native of Scotland, I expect Ken Reid will be able to confirm.

Darlington had a 1965 F106 water tender which looked a lot like this except that it had the hose reels behind the rear wheel arches. It did not of course carry an escape ladder, so this was an obvious place for them. Swansea had a similar unit on a short wheelbase chassis as well as a matched pair of Dennis PEs of around the same vintage. While Swansea followed Merthyr and Cardiff with early Merryweather diesels, Darlington’s first was the 1960 Firemaster TTL - with is now fortunately preserved thanks to Dr Hutchinson.
