Fire Engines Photos

Jonathan: Interesting photo, especially with the Leyland Super Comet - not often used as a fire appliance chassis. Do you happen to know which firm did the bodywork?

Yes I agree nice photo , the LAD cab Comet is unusual.

I am advised the PE is badged Leyland but has Albion wheel hubs and is probably an Albion Chieftain. Supplied by John Morris who probably subcontracted the bodywork to Kerbell Motors.

Roger: Thanks! Not quite such a rarity after all. The Albion Chieftain was not exactly the most common fire appliance chassis, but quite a few were on the run...

John Morris, who imported Magirus ladders for several years, were not a major supplier of pump appliances either, so this is still an interesting example of a not very common appliance.

Five bays, five totally different vehicles. Those were the days!

I served here from 1967 and rode to incidents on all of the fire appliances including the green goddess, the wrt eventually broke its chassis, happy memories.
