A diamond and four circles looks like it

These had Perkins engines of course but very rarely advertised the fact

Dodge, ERF, Ford and Shelvoke did too but they also rarely if ever badged their products with Perkins logos.

Darlington also had one Dennis appliance - possibly the only one - with a Cummins engine.

This echoed their ERF Snorkel, which also had a Cummins rather than a Perkins engine, although both earlier and later appliances had either AEC or Perkins, both a series of Dennis appliances and another ERF.

Why?

The town was home to the Cummins engine factory, so for the council to show support for a local business was believed to be good politics...

When the factory was first opened, the mayor was gifted an american Chrysler limousine by Chrysler-Cummins. This was a huge, flashy LHD beast, which by itself occupied most of the parking in front of the town hall!

The Perkins V8-640 went into the early RSs starting with South Yorkshires "T" reg batch RS133RA/116, V8-640 also went into the "R"Series starting with West Midlands "R"batch, prior to introduction of RS.

Referring back to the Chrysler limousine, there is a great photo of it in the Northern Echo's archive. It was apparently one of only nine ever built, and the only other one in Europe belonged to President Tito of Yugoslavia...
