These were part of a total order for ten water tenders and one foam unit.

To provide the required horsepower petrol engine, Ford Special Vehicle Operations fitted these with a five liter Ford petrol engine which was built in Canada, and not normally available in the UK. They replaced old Commer Miles appliances.

These were the first D series fire appliances sold, and some of the first ever with a tilt cab. Ford went on to sell D series appliances to more than thirty UK brigades, as well as numerous units in Denmark, Ireland, Turkey, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and a few additional countries.

These later deliveries had either the Ford turbocharged five liter six cylinder diesel engine or the popular Perkins 510 V8, which was also installed in fire appliances by Dennis, Dodge, ERF and Shelvoke.
