Despite Cornwall’s fondness for Austin’s appliances, the Gypsy fire truck was otherwise mainly sold to factory and industrial fire brigades. It was quite an efficient package. Available on either short or long wheelbase chassis, It had a front mounted 500 GPM pump, either a 40 or 70 IG water tank, a first aid hose reel, accommodation for four firefighters and lockers for hoses and fittings, plus the ability to carry suction hoses and an extension ladder on the roof. Two crew members sat in the rear, and could immediately access the hose reel.
