The only surviving F101 SLW178 is now in the Manx Motor Museum. The Tintin fire engine is based on the f101.

These very rare appliances had a monster Rolls Royce marine diesel engine which I recall was around 12 litres and must have weighed a ton! I believe the only other brigade to buy any of these was Nottinghamshire, which had a water tender version. I once saw one of the London pumps in action when it attended a fire which had broken out in the Christmas tree in Leicester Square late one very chic evening. After two policemen who had been seen running to the incident had been throwing water at it with their helmets, after dunking them in the fountain, the F 101 turned up with four very bored looking firemen on board and used a hose reel to finish the job. The tree was saved!

I remember two of these in the old E21 Lewisham fire station in the late 1950's early 60's. I think I remember white steering wheels, but not the reg plates. Station is still there in alternative use
