But you will see it has NFS markings on it..i.e WW2 era..its called 'preservation'

Hi Rob, yep, would look a lot nicer with a pair of 8" headlights but was keeping to the original spec. Normal lenses carried as well in case some light is needed. The bell should be painted black but that was too much!

I sincerely hope the tyres are not "preserved" too - driving around in the dark is bad enough, but not on seventy year old rubber!

I agree about the black bell - daft idea anyway...

Just fitted set of new Firestone truck tyres. Fun times with crowbar and sledge hammer! Anyone want some 60 year old Goodyears (joking!)

Hey Peter, that’s me back in Scotland again after a couple years in the USA. Hopefully we’ll catch up sometime! The old Dennis is looking good! Glad you managed to catch up with my Dad last year (maybe the year before as time flies!)

Hi Andy, yes that would be good. Took her out for a test drive last weekend but no rallies this year (small price to pay). Dufftown last year (1940's event), Elgin the year before. Give me a shout if your down this way.

In service 20 years then another 10 with a volunteer fire brigade. Not a bad length of service but seriously outdated in performance and equipment by then. Ordered to go with a 60' steel escape but went on the run with a 30' Home Office wooden ladder and later an Ajax trussed ladder.

Peter - this kind of service life is quite common in some countries, especially in many South American volunteer fire services. Seriously short of funding, they routinely buy 20 year old used appliances from the US, Germany and some other European countries - and then use them for another ten to twenty years.

In many countries, volunteer fire companies often buy used appliances when busier full time brigades have finished with them, because of budget constraints. Very common with rural and small town fire departments here in the US, and in poorer communities in Germany too...There are a few units illustrated on this site which have been in use for half a century!
