maudsley merryweather advertisement 1955
this was the merryweather advert at the 1955 motor show , this is the marquis model and its obvious how they were mistaken for AEC ,the maudsley company had in th early fifties been taken over by AEC but still produced these chassis and were used for fire appliances up till 1960 after which it was the AEC chassis , glasgow and edinburgh had a few of these and were opten called AEC but as you can see were in fact maudsley.

Merryweather
One would think that fire engine design would emphasize ease and speed of access and egress for all crew members, so a two door arrangement seems counter intuitive, when a four door (or even occasionally six door) cab makes so much more sense.
The only other country to fall in love with two door crew cab fire trucks was Finland, and I have never been able to find out why they were so popular there either...
