The hosereel plugged into the delivery on the no1 delivery is just how they have set up the cooling loop. So it can be taken out and used normally if needed. The gooseneck plugged into the no 4 delivery normally has flaked 45mm pre-attached, the box of 45 is in the offside rear locker and the hose passes through the rear of the locker and into the gooseneck. This means you can run off 2 lengths of flaked 45 and get water on quite quickly. On these pumps the no3 delivery has been removed and is instead used for the generally unreliable Cafs foam system which has it’s delivery coming out in the nearside rear locker on a stottz coupling.
I like the pre-connected 45 hose layout - a rather common feature of all North American and quite a few European fire services, but not all that popular in the UK.
Whose CAF system does this have? I wonder because most seem to work very well, but they do have to be designed and built by a professional firm who has experience with them...
Andy - sounds very sensible, as these lengths are most often all that is needed to get to work and set in to a hydrant.
It seems that some brigades tend to be a bit too reliant on hose reels, perhaps because deploying 45 mm hose and setting into a hydrant is just more work...
Certainly this does not seem to be a uniquely British situation. The Italian VdF and some Dutch fire services seem to think quite often that a high pressure (or CAF) reel will kill any fire!
