What does an ESU carry? Is it the same as an OSU?

Are these standardized in any ways, or simply a truck which carries whatever additional items an individual fire service decides they want to have ready on one backup vehicle?

It seems every CFO has to think of his own name for similar machines and the same name in the next brigade can be totally different. In the old days emergency tender or BA tender etc or even ET/CU gave a clue. Emergency Support Unit could be anything.

Rob, this is what is generally known in the UK as a Rescue Tender. Some UK fire and rescue services choose to use different names such as Enhanced Rescue Unit (Greater Manchester) for example.
They perform the same sort of role as a rescue or heavy rescue in the USA.
