1970s Photo by Norman Tarling - I can find no information on this appliance though Essex did have AEC Merryweather pumps.

Ex Southend I reckon, they had an identical appliance registered XHJ219.

Three bells, I bet that made an almighty noise! Did they not have faith in one, or two? lol

A Merryweather paper photo of this ('Maudslay') currently on Ebay.

I might be wrong but I thought that Maudslay only related to the RegentIII/Merryweather appliances as those chassis were built (or maybe modified from the bus chassis) at the (formerly) Maudslay works. I have always thought of the Mercury chassis as AEC products.

The Regents were AECs, built in the Maudslay works. The Southend one in this posting is not an AEC Mercury. It is a Maudslay Merlin II.

something I hope clears up the is it an aec or is it a maudsley thing , up until 1960 or just after maudsley were still building chassis and thereafter were fully integrated into aec and all products were built by aec after that time scale , this aec style grill was used by merryweather on maudsley chassis just to make things seem otherwise

Maudsley were taken over by AEC in 1948 so after then it was an AEC even if an original Maudsley design. early days of badge engineering.
